At CONNECT, we have always attributed our success to our team of superheroes who provide the quickest, most efficient, and reliable IT support services throughout the Thompson-Okanagan. Now that we are part of the LinkPoint Technology Group family, we plan to fly even higher in providing the best in personalized on-demand and managed IT services. To that end, we wish to introduce CONNECT employees Ben Page and Shane Black, who are taking on new managerial roles in our sales and technical support departments:
Up, up, and away we go!
Turning a Page
As head of IT sales, it's Ben's mission to not only grow his team and CONNECT accounts but to maintain the trust and relationship that CONNECT already has with its vast client base.
“I have always enjoyed sales and love working with people,” Ben says. “I get to put on my social hat and facilitate our accounts with all the latest hardware and IT equipment needed. Making sure our customers are satisfied is paramount to what I do.”
Originally from Ontario, Ben is a graduate of Sheridan College’s computer programmer diploma. He started his career with Dundas Data Visualization, a software development company in Toronto that develops business analytics and tools such as charts, graphs, maps, reports, and more.
“I think they saw in me how much I like working with people, so they hired me as a salesperson rather than as a developer. I was the second salesperson to work for the company and saw it grow from 20 to 200-plus employees,” Ben says.
After Dundas sold its IP to Microsoft, Ben decided to look at different horizons and says the weather sealed his choice of a move out west.
“When I decided to move, I searched Google for the best weather in Canada, and Kelowna and the Okanagan came up,” Ben says. "Coming from a big city to a smaller population had its challenges in finding work. Landing at CONNECT was the best thing to happen to me.”
Ben has been working at CONNECT since 2018 and admits his IT knowledge was, in the beginning, “a little slim.” He credits CONNECT General Manager Troy Schalm and the CONNECT family for taking him under their wing.
“Having joined the company in the last two years, it's obvious to see how much it is built around its employees," Ben says. "I felt like I fit in right away. Everyone from the office staff to the technicians to the owners were more than willing to make me part of the family."
Ben adds he is excited about what the LinkPoint acquisition will bring to CONNECT in expanding its base.
“With them being on the Coast, we will have access to a whole plethora of resources that we didn’t have before. This is a great opportunity for us, and I am excited to see what the future holds,” he says.
Leading the Team
Shane started working in IT when he was still a student at the Centre for Arts and Technology (CATO) in Kelowna. With his knowledge in data security, he was picked up to provide small business tech support and worked in a basement office before moving on to the landscape field for a while.
“A few years later, I was brought into CONNECT as a junior technician and have worked my way to a senior role over the years,” Shane says.
Today, Shane serves as CONNECT’s Technical Team Lead. Among his list of responsibilities is mentoring new employees and bringing forward their skill sets.
Besides setting up businesses with CONNECT's all-inclusive IT solutions, Shane's team of computer technicians make sure all IT security measures and support services are on track for CONNECT clients.
"We're here to make sure our clients are happy with our services and product offerings and to ensure our ongoing support remains at a high level. Our guys provide excellent troubleshooting and always make sure we can resolve issues for all our clients," Shane says.
With the acquisition of CONNECT by LinkPoint, Shane hopes to add even more technicians to the CONNECT team.
“I am excited to work in a management role and help the team grow. This is a great place to work and is never dull. We offer so many IT services, and our client base is wide. There is always something different coming up, whether it be in the office or out on the road," he says.
